Limitations:

  • (XXII.) Conveners DO NOT set Clan policy or Clan Muir Society policy. The Chief sets Clan Policy. Clan Society policy is set by the President.

  • (XXIV.) Conveners must not misrepresent the views/opinions/policies of the Clan Muir by making personal statements and claiming they are that of the Chief. Unless these are documented fact and signed by the Chief personally.

Convener Rights

  • (XXV.) A person who is appointed as a Convener may refer to themselves as Clan Muir Convener for their assigned geographical area.
  • (XXVI.) A Convener has the right speak to the Chief on an as needed basis, but all communications should be started through the Chain of Command to keep the lines of communications free and clear. Communication by email will be acceptable at any time, however, if a speedy response were required, communication through the standard hierarchy would be a better route.
  • (XXVII.) A Convener may recommend adoption of a non-Muir into the Clan but may not approve said adoption. Only the Chief of the Clan may approve adoption of a non-Muir into the Clan.
  • (XXVIII.) A Convener may recommend an honorary membership into the Society but may not approve said Membership. Only the Chief, a Guardian (Chieftain) of the Clan, or the President of the Society may approve Honorary Memberships.

Clansmen and Clanswomen

  • (a.) Any person born with the surname Muir, Moore, More, Moar, Mohr, Mure, Mor, or Moir is by birth a clansman of Clan Muir.
  • (b.) A clansman can be said to be one who professes allegiance to a chief and the other members of his noble community, whether by descent with a common name, territorial origin or adoption, and who respects the Law of Arms in Scotland.
  • (c.) The status of a clansman is not a lowly one and as part of a noble community recognized by the Crown, he may wear his tartan and the bonnet badge of his chief with pride.
  • (d.) The Chief of Clan Muir may refuse membership or outlaw an existing member from the clan, thus depriving him of the privileges of that status. There is the mistaken belief that Clan Muir is a Sept of various clans. It is the stance of the Chief of Clan Muir that Muir is a clan unto itself and not a Sept of any other Clan. This is supported the Lord Lyon Court. Therefore, any member of Clan Muir who believes they are entitled to be a member also of another clan will be corrected on the spot by any clansman of Clan Muir. If that person does not swear his or her loyalty to the Chief, and renounce their affiliation to the current Clan, they will be forever expelled from Clan Muir and will NEVER be allowed to wear the Tartan or Badge of Clan Muir.
  • (e.) Persons who are not members of Clan Muir may be adopted into Clan Muir at the pleasure of the Chief. If the person who desires to be adopted into Clan Muir is a member of another Clan, they must renounce their membership to that Clan in writing with copies being sent both to the Chief of Clan Muir and the Chief of their current Clan.
