Head of the House ( Society Chief )

  • (a.) There is no Chief of Clann Muir currently recognized by The Lord Lyon.
  • (b.) The person having been elected at large by The Clan Muir Society members, is the
    current standing Head of The House Of Muir.
  • (c.) Technically, the terms 'Head Of The House' and 'Society Chief' are interchangeable,
    therefore the term 'Chief' will be used in this document when referring to
    The Head Of The House Of Muir.

Duties of the Chief

  • (i.) Provide guidance to the Clan.
  • (ii.) Develop the Clan and re-establish the presence of the Clan on a local, national, and world wide basis.
  • (iii). Develop and administer the laws of the Clan and set Clan policy.
  • (iv.) Provide necessary leadership of the Clan when dealing with all Clan related matters; be they local, national, international, legal, or cultural.
  • (v.) Protect and defend the Clan from all threats.
  • (vi.) Represent the Clan at all times.

Privileges of the Chief

  • (viii.) The Chief of The Clan Muir Society is the only person who may be referred to as 'Chief'.
  • (ix.) Adopt new members into the Clan.
  • (x.) Expel current members from the Clan.
  • (xi.) Profit from Clan Related items such as Clan Badges.
  • (xii.) Appoint "Lieutenants" to assist with the operations of the Clan.
  • (xiii.) Officially recognize organizations such as the Clan Muir Society

Guardians (Chieftain)

  • (a.) Guardians of the Clan Muir Society may only be appointed by the Chief of Clan Muir
  • (b.) The appointment to the office of Guardian is a lifetime appointment. However such appointments are at the pleasure of the Society Chief. Guardians may be removed from office for cause at the discretion of the Chief.
  • (c.) Guardians are the Society's Chief's Lieutenants and are authorized by the Chief to act on his behalf in all Clan related matters for a given geographical area. The Society Chief of the Clan may appoint certain Guardians to act in his stead with the full powers of the Chief. Such powers will be granted in writing and are for a set period of time to be determined by the Chief.
    Except as indicated above, certain powers are reserved for the Society Chief alone as indicated in Section A.1 above certain limitations to the Guardians powers are indicated below:
  • (a.) Guardians DO NOT set Clan policy; only The Society Chief sets Clan Policy.
  • (b.) Guardians WILL NOT make agreements or contracts pertaining to and binding for the Clan without the express written permission of the Chief
  • (c.) The Society Chief of the Clan appoints Guardians. Therefore, Guardians cannot appoint someone to act in their stead without the express written permission of the Chief.
  • (d.) Guardians must not misrepresent the views/opinions/policies of the Clan Muir Society by making personal statements and claiming they are that of the Chief. Unless these are documented fact and signed by the Chief personally.
  • (e.) Guardians are authorized to wear 2 eagle feathers (simulated or real as covered by local law), or a reasonable facsimile thereof, behind the Clansman's Strap and Buckle badge at all times as Guardians are always "on duty".
  • (f.) Guardians are the immediate supervisors of Conveners in their designated area. Guardians my not appoint a person to the position of Convener, however a Guardian may reprimand a Convener or remove a person from the position of Convener for cause. This will be done in writing, with a copy being presented to both the Chief and the Convener in question. The Chief reserves the right to review the circumstances and may re-instate the Convener if he feels the removal was unjustified.

Guardian Rights

  • (I.) A person who is appointed as a Guardian may refer to themselves as Clan Muir Guardian for their assigned geographical area.
  • (II.) A Guardian has the right to speak to the Society Chief on an as needed basis.
  • (VIII.) A Guardian may recommend adoption of a non-Muir into the Clan but may not approve said adoption. Only the Society Chief of the Clan may approve adoption of a non-Muir into the Clan.
  • (IV.) A Guardian may recommend and approve honorary membership into the Clan Muir Society.

Conveners

  • (a.) Definition: Convener - a person who oversees the activities and represents the interests of the Clan for a given territory.
  • (b.) A Convener is confirmed and appointed by the Society Chief of the Clan, and only the Chief of the Clan or his designated representative (Guardian) may remove a Convener from his/her office.
  • (c.) Conveners will be assigned as follows: Western Hemisphere: North, Central, and South America
